Cairns, QLD, Australia
A city full of energy set in the tropical rainforest, Cairns is undoubtedly built for tourism. The backpacking hub for North Queensland, full of adrenalin activities, purpose built accommodation and lots of pubs and bars.
With so much to choose from to fill yours days, your time in Cairns is certainly jam packed. White water rafting, sky diving, bungy jumping, trips out to the Great Barrier Reef or nearby islands etc... I was not an exception and my time in Cairns consisted of WWR, 2 bungy jumps, a trip to Kuranda and a 4 day open water dive course.
AJ Hackett does a promotion at the hostel I was staying in every Monday evening. With a deal of 2 bungy jumps and a Minjin Swing all for $99, it was a tough one to turn down. 2 days later I am standing on the edge of the bungy board with the cord tied around my legs. Having done a bungy before I was keen to jump in a more adventurous way that the Swan Dive, so opted for a Water Touch for the first jump and then a Physco Back Dive for the second. Lots of fun and adrenalin especially having been dunked into the water waist high without pre warning!
A tamer morning trip to Kuranda the following day where Sarah and I took the cable car up through the rainforest to enable us to have a good look at the Barron Falls. 95% of people that go to the Barron Falls are normally disappointed as there is not enough water for such a dramatic sight, however, after all the heavy rain of the last week we were certainly in for a treat. Water just gushed down making the falls pretty impressive.
Once Sarah's 3 weeks came to an end, I had an extra week in Cairns in which I filled it with a 4 Day Open Water Dive Course.
