Airlie Beach & The Whitsundays, QLD, Australia
Hopefully my final overnight bus for a while (well, until at least Asia) brought me to Airlie Beach, this time I was joined by my little piece of home - Sarah. Sarah would do anything to get a mention on my blog, so flying out here was her only option! It also means that I have the privilege of having Sarah with me for the next 3 weeks.
We arrived in Airlie Beach at 9am, and by the afternoon we had set sail on the Pride of Airlie and Kora boats out towards South Molle island which was to be our home for 2 nights. The sun was bright, and so there was nothing left for Andy, Lynsey, Sarah and I to do accept stretch out on deck and relax. Enroute to South Molle Island we went passed a few of the Whitsunday Islands, most of which are national parks, green lush forestry surrounded by beautiful waters. We reached South Molle Island and spent the rest of the afternoon by the pool.
The next day we visited Whithaven Beach, supposedly the 2nd best beach in the world. Whiter than white sand, and an opportunity to snorkel on the reef in search for Nemo. The day was spent snorkelling and sailing before returning to our paradise island, with the final day much more of the same. The snorkelling was awesome, with colourful coral and beautiful tropical fish happily swimming in and amongst us all.
We made in back to Airlie Beach, just in time for a big night out. Not only is Airlie Beach a party town, but it was also Australia Day!!!! The streets were filled with patriotic Ozzies, and so a group of us (all Poms) decided that if we couldn't beat them, then we may as well join them! Happy belated Australia Day to all my Ozzie friends.
Sadly, my travel stint with Andy and Lynsey is now over - thanks guys for a fab 3 weeks. Can't wait for our reunion later in the year where I will get to see the delights of Birmingham. Enjoy the rest of Oz and have a wicked time in Africa! xx
